Luke 4:1

Then Jesus, being filled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, being tempted for forty days by the devil.

Heavenly Father Your Holy Spirit empowered David but the Messiah is more richly endowed with a threefold fullness of the Spirit. Your Prophet Isaiah said, "There shall come forth a Rod from the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots." We bless His Holy name! Jesus, You have always demonstrated in Your life on earth the correct response to Father God. You honored and obeyed Him. Even when You were tempted in the wilderness You did not sin. You resisted the devil demonstrating to us Your allegiance to God. Something that Adam couldn't do, and we are not able without confession of our sins. Forgive us Lord for our mumbling and complaining demanding our own way. We can be like the children of Israel who were led out of Egypt not trusting for Your provisions. Their contention like ours are offensive to You as we challenge Your faithfulness. We have been led out from the wilderness of sin to rejoice in the Light of Your grace. Jesus told us we shall not tempt the Lord our God. Yet at times we do. So perhaps it's time for us to depart from the busy craziness of the world with all its temptations. May we sit at Your feet in the desert place where we find Your comfort when we are mourning. The place where You take our ashes and make something beautiful. Where You pour the oil of joy upon us and robe us in a garment of praise. May we be called trees of righteousness, and our roots go down deep. May we be Your plantings Lord to bring glory to You. This Christmas You are our present; you are the gift that keeps giving and we are forever grateful. You Lord are our hearts desire. We love and adore You Jesus. Amen.
